Our Journey to Sailor
I have had Golden’s previously and knew my next dog after my little Mini Pin passed would be a Golden.
There is just something about them that calms your soul. I came across Golden’s Without Borders on Social Media and knew right then and there that was where my next one was going to come from.
I scoured their posts every day to see when the next Freedom Flights were scheduled. Once I told my husband where they were located he was like “Absolutely not are we driving to Vegas for a dog.” Little did he know that was where we were going to find our girl. We loved that the organization goes with placing based on the dogs personality and needs vs the adopters. We had a few we wanted to meet but we had to be “right” for them. Shelia does a very good job at guiding you with this. I face timed the foster for our girl and once I saw her face I knew. We drove to Vegas from Sacramento and the next day got to meet and bring her home. Once the door was opened her tail was wagging and she flopped over for belly rubs. How do these dogs still have goodness surrounding their hearts after all the trauma they were put through; but that is a Golden for you. Now mind you she was still decompressing and transitioning but she was so so excited to get into the car, she still does, it’s her very favorite thing besides food. Now everyone thinks their Golden is special and I am one to agree. But Sailor, she has the calmest demeanor. People comment on it all of the time as well as how beautiful she is. Once they hear her story it makes her all the more special. We have had her a year and while she still working on her confidence, just being her makes so many people happy. She comes to work with me daily at our 9-1-1 Center and gives all the loves to our Dispatchers with no judgement just a lot of fur. ☺ I have never had a bond with a dog like I have with her, I joke that I should have named her Shadow as she is just that. Where I go she goes. But her name suits her as she traveled long and far to us. Sailor is my soul dog and I am quite certain my mini pin, Mya sent her to me.
